Udo Voigt arrested in Marrakesh during protest against Global Compact for Migration
A fatal strategic step: in Marrakesh the much contested UN-“Compact for Migration“ was officially adopted by 164 nations on Monday midmorning. Some countries, among them Austria, stayed absent and refused adoption. Switzerland and Italy weren´t represented as well.
The ceremony in Marrakesh, where some hundred head of states, politicians and media representatives from all over the world attended, didn´t proceed quite smoothly. One single (in figures: 1) politician prior to the ceremony demonstrated against this Compact clearly visible with a banner: we are talking about the German NPD-Member of the European Parliament Udo Voigt. On his banner was widely to read: „Immigration kills Germany!“
The German Member of the European Parliament was able to go on with his protest for several minutes while he was also interviewed by the medias, before the UN-Security Service stopped his protest and hauled him off. He was further threatend to be expelled from Morocco. By that Udo Voigt is the first politician who has been arrested in connection with this Compact for Migration. No good omen for this much contested treaty which according to its proponents reportedly is comprised only of declarations without any obligation.
An unbelievable political scandal took place already on Sunday evening within an official meeting of the EU-delegation for Marrakesh which was attended besides members of the European Parliament and representatives of the European External Action Service (EEAS) as well by the European Commissioner for Migration Dmitr Avramopoulos. He thereby declared frankly that the European Union is going to adopt this Compact officially on 19th of December, even though several European countries refuse it. With blatant contempt for the governments for instance of Switzerland, USA or Austria he professed not to care in the slightest about theirs objections (verbatim: „What some member states put in their statements, I dont give a damn!“).
