This October sees a big chance for our partners in the Czech Workers’ Party of Social Justice (DSSS) to break through into elected politics. Regional council elections will take place in 13 out of the country’s 14 regions. In some regions the DSSS is showing up in the polls very close to the 5% threshold that’s needed to win seats.
In the Ústecký region, where the DSSS chairman Tomáš Vandas is at the head of the growing party’s electoral lists, the latest poll has the party on 4.6% (see image). These elections are also connected to the senate elections where Tomáš Vandas is standing in the same region.
The Czech elections will be in two rounds, the first on 7-8th October and the second a week later. Activists from APF partner parties who are willing and able to travel to the Czech Republic for a week or two at the end of September or early October in order to provide volunteer manpower for activities such as postering are urged to contact us straight away. Our Czech comrades say that hard-working volunteers are very welcome and will be found basic accommodation and provided with local drivers for their action teams.
In the meantime, we wish our good friends in the DSSS good luck in their campaign.
